Report: How to improve teacher education, preparation

Teacher candidates must go through intensive classroom training similar to how medical students are prepared and prove they are ready to teach, according to a report from a panel of experts commissioned by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The panel said teacher-training programs need to improve their admissions standards, and is also called for a more rigorous accreditation process for teaching colleges. Eight states have agreed to pilot such changes.
