Cataract surgery improves eyesight in zoo's elephant

A veterinary team from the N.C. State University College of Veterinary Medicine performed cataract surgery on C'sar, the oldest male elephant at the North Carolina Zoo, whose vision has been impaired by cataracts since 2010. The team wanted to place an artificial lens but decided against it once they noted the tissues within the eye likely couldn't support the lens.
