Funding may be in budget for new vaccine production methods, senator says

Acting FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford told a congressional committee the U.S. needs to move away from the old system of producing vaccines using chickens and eggs and was told by the committee chairman that $100 million is in the budget to upgrade flu production, $50 million more than was in this year's budget. Aides later said the money is expected to survive the budget process, but warned budget negotiations are continuing.
