Home-schooling parents' protectiveness draws criticism

Stanford University professor Rob Reich fears home-schooling parents often shelter their children too much from contrary views and diversity of opinion, which, he contends, students need if they're to become responsible citizens in a pluralistic society. Home-schooling parents acknowledge they want to be the primary influence on their children's development but argue their children truly are engaged in their communities.
