Wisconsin governor to announce state stem cell research funds

Wisconsin's governor is expected to announce new initiatives today, including investments in new research buildings, to help keep the state a leader in stem cell research. Sources say Gov. Jim Doyle has decided the University of Wisconsin at Madison is to receive at least $50 million in addition to the $134 million research center already planned for the school. The head of the Wisconsin Technology Council said the state must respond to California's stem cell initiative, but expand research to include "regenerative" medicine.
