Emigree and scientist Julia Sigalovsky started the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough, Mass., because of her dissatisfaction with the public school's math program. The charter school, modeled after ones in the former Soviet Union, has had a rocky start, because students' behavior was not what Sigalovsky anticipated.
