DOT says number of passengers down 1.4% in first eight months

The Department of Transportation has reported a 1.4% decline in the number of scheduled passengers on U.S. carriers during the first eight months of the year compared with the same period the previous year. U.S. airlines carried 5.1% fewer domestic and international passengers in August compared with the same month the previous year.
