KEI first-stage motor passes fourth firing test

The Missile Defense Agency says the first-stage motor of the Kinetic Energy Interceptor was fired for about 35 seconds last week, enough time to engage a missile launched from North Korea. "Initial results from the test show that design expectations for mechanical and ballistic performance were met," according to MDA. The Nov. 13 test was the fourth in a series of five, with the first flight demonstration scheduled for next year.
