Chemical groups press for careful evaluation of TSCA amendments

At a recent House subcommittee hearing, chemical industry leaders urged Congress to adopt a risk-based scientific approach and prioritize reviews of substances in its bid to modernize the 33-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act. Environmental advocates, meanwhile, are pushing for the elimination of nonessential use of controversial chemicals and to shift the burden of proof to manufacturers in proving the safety of such chemicals.
