GE unit gets federal grant to develop wearable sensors

General Electric's Global Research division said it will receive a $2 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to develop wearable devices for detecting chemical weapons and diseases such as diabetes and cancer. The company intends to combine the use of radio-frequency identification sensors with gas sensors to track harmful chemicals and diseases in the air.
