5 tips for staying realistic about your leadership

Your employees may not be willing to tell you what they really think, so, as the boss, it's up to you to maintain a realistic view of your leadership, Jeff Haden writes. Remind yourself that you shouldn't try to be friends with your employees and that workers may not be as emotionally invested in the business as you are, he writes. "[E]xpecting the same level of dedication and sacrifice will only leave you frustrated -- and negatively impact your ability to lead," Haden writes.
