GAVI initiative takes aim at cervical cancer, rubella

The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization board announced plans today to roll out a massive cervical-cancer vaccination program, aimed at inoculating 2 million women and girls by 2015. More than 90% of the world's annual cervical-cancer deaths occur in poor countries, and Rwanda and Vietnam are expected to be among the first countries in the new program. GAVI also announced plans to seek funding for rubella vaccination.
