N.J. seeks NCLB waiver, would tie funding to student achievement

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has proposed tying student achievement to school funding in the state's application for a waiver from No Child Left Behind. Under the proposal, state and federal funds would be denied to struggling schools that do not overhaul their operations by firing teachers and principals, adopting longer school days or making other changes. The application also includes plans to reward top schools with additional funding.
