Calif. university hosts Algebra Academy for middle-schoolers

About 100 middle-school students in California recently came together to play math games, sit in on college math courses and tour a college campus during the Algebra Academy, hosted by the University of California Santa Cruz. The academy, which attracted students from six area schools, was started by a local business owner in 2010 to foster a love of math in children. "I've never seen so many smiling faces engaged in math," said J.J. Mack, assistant director of development at UCSC.
