A key House Republican warned federal regulators last week against preventing carriers from bidding for wireless spectrum at an upcoming auction. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., threatened congressional intervention if the Federal Communications Commission limited the ability of AT&T and Verizon Wireless to pursue licenses. The chairman of the House Communications subcommittee also warned the agency against setting aside too much unlicensed spectrum. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said he would impose regulations to prevent anti-consumer behavior if necessary but insisted he would rather rule by consensus than wield a big stick.
