FDA seeks new controls to combat drug-resistant bacteria

Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, called on Congress to create a program that would promote good stewardship and restricted use of antibiotics among hospitals and doctors to help clamp down on drug-resistant bacteria. Woodcock also proposed creating a program that would encourage drugmakers to develop novel antibiotics against drug-resistant infections.
