Protein-fortified beverages find their place in market

Between January and June of this year, beverage-makers launched 74 protein drinks, compared to 49 in the same period last year, according to Mintel's Global New Products Database. "No longer on the table to 'wash down the food,' beverages, in some cases, have become the food as consumers use them for snacks, meal alternatives and nutrient boosts," said Gwen Bargetzi, director of marketing for Hilmar Ingredients.
