Texas college students help young readers build their skills

A group of University of Houston-Victoria students volunteer as reading mentors at six schools in Victoria, Texas. Mentors -- many of whom are education majors participating as part of a class -- focus on reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills with young readers. The program links the school district with the Victoria Business and Education Coalition and Victoria's Helping One Student to Succeed, or H.O.S.T.S., program.
