Tana Utley, chief technology officer at Caterpillar, said gender is not an issue at the heavy-equipment manufacturer. Utley, 44, started at Caterpillar as an engineer in 1986 as one of the company's few female engineers. "Today, 10% of graduating engineers are women," Utley said. "It's better than it was, but (the field is) still traditionally men."
