Growing food offers students lessons on healthy eating

As part of a growing trend, more schools are allowing time in the day for students to work in a garden, growing food they will eventually eat. This year, 50 schools in Idaho submitted applications for federal grants to plant gardens, and officials say that similar programs across the country teach students about the connection between what is grown and what is eaten, while also giving them access to healthier food and helping them develop better eating habits.
