NRF: Gift-card sales tempered by bargain hunters this year

Gift-card sales are expected to dip 5.6% for the 2008 holiday season, the first drop in the category since it was first tracked, according to the NRF. Cash-strapped shoppers are seeking more discounted merchandise as they hone their gift lists. Sales of gift cards still should hit $24.9 billion this season.
