Russia's move to give its president a longer term could be seen as an effort to fight the financial crisis, but it may also be a way for former President Vladimir Putin to move back into the position, with an opportunity to stay there for 12 years this time around. President Dmitry Medvedev could call a snap election next year, with Putin as one of the candidates.
