CMS to combat payment errors with enhanced EHR use

Improper Medicare and Medicaid payments made in fiscal year 2009 amount to $54.2 billion, according to a report by the Office of Management and Budget. "We hope to be able to use data available through the use of new electronic health record reporting that can help in the design of new and innovative approaches to finding emerging trends and vulnerabilities in high risk areas," said Charlene Frizzera, the CMS' acting administrator.
