Intel CTO: 3-D Internet to drive need for computing power

Justin Rattner, Intel's chief technology officer, told attendees of the SC09 conference that the use of 3-D graphics online could help boost flagging demand for high-performance computers. Rattner said examples of the technology include social-networking sites such as Second Life and virtual-design tools that allow long-distance collaboration via the Web.
