Panama Canal project will aid international trade

The first major expansion of the Panama Canal will make transporting goods to the U.S. easier and less expensive, observers say. Workers are blasting through lock walls as part of the $5.25 billion project to widen and deepen the canal. Widening the canal will allow it to accommodate larger vessels carrying nearly three times the number of cargo containers than the typical ship.
