There are two kinds of open innovators: archers, who reach out to others, and magnets, who attract people to them. The former is easier to implement but far less effective, writes Stefan Lindegaard; after all, when you actively recruit innovation partners you inevitably select people who fit in with, rather than challenge and expand, your existing mindset. "This is potentially dangerous as it can ... hinder engagement with potential stakeholders that we never thought would be able to contribute to the initiative," Lindegaard writes.
