Daily Economic Indicator: Unemployment claims decline

Fewer Americans filed for unemployment benefits for the first time in the week ended Nov. 12, according to the Department of Labor. About 388,000 people filed, marking the lowest level in seven months. "Companies are hearing and reading about gloom, but seeing decent sales, so layoffs are falling," according to Ian Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist for High Frequency Economics.
