New Jersey to issue statewide first-responder ID cards

Burlington County in New Jersey will help roll out a statewide identification-card program that will standardize credentials for first responders. The smartcards, partly developed by county emergency officials, will be paid for with federal monies and are designed to improve security, help prevent identity fraud during emergencies and improve operations.
