Virginia teams public, private sectors in manufacturing research

Public- and private-sector researchers are coming together under the aegis of Virginia's new Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing. The aim is to help the state develop its manufacturing prowess, including working on ways to make jet engines more efficient and determining how to build more highly calibrated precision machinery. Pointing to CCAM's 16,000-square-foot high bay area, Executive Director Dave Lohr said, "This space is designed exactly the way you would see it if you went to any modern, advanced manufacturing factory."
