4 FirstEnergy utilities to benefit from major smart grid investment

FirstEnergy said it is investing $2.8 billion to shore up four utilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio with smart grid technology designed to prevent a blackout such as the one the company experienced in 2003. The upgrades, which will include remote sensor equipment, will take four years to complete and follows a multimillion-dollar investment in 2012 in new transmission lines.
