A silicon microparticle electrode coated with a stretchy polymer is the key to self-healing batteries that may never need changing, according to this article. Stanford researchers say the polymer heals the minute cracks that develop as the battery is used. The team added carbon nanoparticles to the polymer, allowing it to conduct electricity.
