Cleanup of Hanford site faces challenges

The Department of Energy's construction of a factory to encase radioactive waste at the Hanford nuclear site in Washington state is only two-thirds complete, 12 years after construction began. There is an ongoing dispute between the cleanup project's technical personnel, its lead contractors and the department. Officials are considering whether to spend another $2 billion to $3 billion, which could delay the project's completion.
