Ga. district teaches parents about early-literacy skills

Gainesville City Schools in Georgia is taking steps to help parents prepare their children for school. Read and Rise -- a district-sponsored program -- seeks to give young parents ideas for teaching early-literacy skills to infants and toddlers. Ideas include incorporating language lessons into everyday activities such as driving and cooking. The program has served about 150 parents since it started two years ago.
