Heart risk tied to higher BMI in type 2 diabetes patients

Data presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions revealed a higher BMI was tied to increased plaque buildup and greater heart disease risk in patients with type 2 diabetes. "Based on the findings of this study, choosing insulin sensitizing therapy as the primary management strategy in diabetic patients may be beneficial by reducing the tendency towards elevated BMIs," said lead researcher J. Brent Muhlestein.
