Plant leak cuts world's medical isotope supply

The South African Nuclear Energy Corp. has reported a plant leak that cut global medical radioisotope supplies. The leak occurred Nov. 2, and measures to address the issue will be carried out this week, according to NTP Radioisotopes SOC. However, the root cause remains unclear, and a regulatory investigation is continuing. The outage means a shortage of molybdenum-99 and technetium-99m.
