Study: Intervention costs rise as glucose threshold is lowered

Lowering the threshold for a normal fasting plasma glucose level may increase medical costs despite its potential benefit in diabetes prevention, CDC researchers noted in Diabetes Care. Researchers said lowering the glucose threshold may increase the cost per lifetime quality-adjusted life-year gained from $30,100 at 115 mg/dL to $115,800 at 90 mg/dL.
