Top restaurants around the globe from Mirazur on the French Mediterranean coast to Alinea and Next in Chicago are increasingly becoming destinations in and of themselves for gift card-carrying foodies in search of the next culinary experience. At the two Chicago eateries, where patrons buy tickets in advance and dinner for two can run $800 with wine, gifts now account for between $50,000 and $100,000 in ticket sales, said co-owner Nick Kokonas.
