Michigan district to charge teachers for in-school appliance use

Teachers in a Michigan school district will soon have to pay a fee to use appliances in their classrooms as part of an effort by Van Buren Public Schools to save money, saying that $15,000 can be spared from the district's energy budget by charging teachers to plug in. The fees, which will be assessed beginning Jan. 1, will range from $13 for a microwave to $182 for a small refrigerator.
