Regulators close to authorizing CDS clearinghouses

Proposed clearinghouses for credit derivatives could get the go-ahead from U.S. regulators in a matter of weeks. The Federal Reserve, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission are analyzing risks of clearinghouse applications. The regulators said jointly that they expect that "one or more CDS central counterparties will commence operations before the end of 2008."
