The upside to downsizing

Faced with unprecedented economic uncertainty, some entrepreneurs might be tempted to retreat to the security of a regular paycheck and a 401(k). Not so fast, says consultant Rosalind Resnick, pointing out that U.S. businesses cut 84,000 "secure" jobs in August alone. Periods of corporate downsizing can actually be a great opportunity for entrepreneurs, she says, because companies are forced to farm out work they once did in-house.
