The cost of construction materials will rise modestly over the winter and post larger increases throughout 2010, Jim Haughey writes. In October, the construction materials price index fell 0.2% from year-ago levels, he notes. Nevertheless, it has climbed 0.5% over the past three months. "The key negative drivers of materials price changes now are the depressed and still falling level of U.S. construction and a small lingering surplus of construction materials inventory," Haughey writes.
