Full reservoir, corroded pipes cause water main breaks, report says

An unusually full reservoir may have contributed to several water main breaks in Los Angles, according to a report by the city's Department of Water and Power. The report noted that the reservoir put additional pressure on the main. It also found that many of the breaks occurred in a corroded pipe that was particularly vulnerable to increases in pressure. Meanwhile, officials are waiting for input from scientists who are determining if seismic activity contributed to the breaks.
