Obama asked to help broker highway deal

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, has asked President Barack Obama to help broker a deal over the next transportation-spending bill. The move came as Boxer scrapped plans to extend current federal transport spending for 18 months, and instead proposed a stopgap 6-month extension. "I'm not happy about it, but at the minimum we have to do this," she said.
