Parents of student with diabetes petition district for daily gym classes

The parents of a Pennsylvania sixth-grader who has diabetes say their son needs physical-education classes daily -- not the two out of every six days his school provides -- to maintain healthy blood-sugar levels. District officials in Chester County say their regular gym schedule should be sufficient for Jack McLaughlin and recommended that he participate in the school walking club or other extracurricular sports. A due-process hearing on the matter is set for Dec. 16.
