Mortgage delinquency rate dropped in the third quarter

The Mortgage Bankers Association reported that 14.42% of households were behind on mortgage payments in the second quarter and that figure dropped to 13.52% in the third quarter. The new data, the lowest delinquency rate since early 2009, come as state and federal officials ramp up their scrutiny of foreclosure processes. The drop in delinquencies was attributed to loan modifications and evictions.
