Operating rate at U.S. chlor-alkali facilities dipped in October

The U.S. chlor-alkali industry's average operating rate fell to 80% last month, compared with 91% in September, according to The Chlorine Institute. The industry's operating-rate average was 79% in October a year ago. Chlorine and caustic soda producers, including Dow Chemical, Occidental Petroleum and PPG Industries, make materials that are used to manufacture polyvinyl chloride pipes, soap and paper.
