Another diabetes research pioneer has died:

Pioneering diabetes researcher Dr. Samuel Rahbar, who discovered elevated levels of the molecule HbA1c in people with diabetes -- a finding that revolutionized the way the disease is diagnosed and treated -- has died of an intracranial hemorrhage at age 83. In June, Rahbar received the Samuel Rahbar Outstanding Discovery Award from the American Diabetes Association during the ADA's 72nd Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia.
