Cardiovascular endurance among youths has dropped worldwide

Data from 50 studies on heart-related fitness involving 25 million 9- to 17-year-olds in 28 countries showed a 5% decline in cardiovascular endurance for every decade since 1975. Researchers said that youths today would take 90 seconds longer to finish a one-mile footrace than did their counterparts from 1975. In the U.S., heart endurance among youths dropped an average of 6% per decade from 1970 to 2000, according to the analysis presented at the American Heart Association conference.
