Two couples lost a lawsuit to reclaim their initiation fees after resigning their club membership when a judge ruled that by signing on the dotted line when they joined, they agreed to all its terms and conditions, which included a long wait for reimbursement. The couples had claimed they were not made aware of such provisions. Before members and owners enter a contractual agreement, all parties are encouraged to read all the information thoroughly before signing and enlist the help of attorneys if the legalese is too cumbersome to figure out, writes Robert Harris.
