Dexamethasone leads to long-term vision improvement in DME, study finds

Data presented before the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting found a significantly greater percentage of diabetic macular edema patients who took dexamethasone gained 15 letters or more at three years compared with the sham treatment arm. Dexamethasone helps reduce angiogenesis, vascular leakage and inflammation, which are main factors in diabetic macular edema, according to researcher Dr. David S. Boyer.
